Away with traditional structures.

A warm welcome, I’m Richard, founder of Nautilus English. I started an interest in linguistics in 2019 realising the demands, commitment and dedication it took to learn a foreign language. I was a professional press photographer and worked as a documentary short film producer. I studied journalism, fine arts and once owned a photography school. I have a business and level 5 TEFL and have been writing educational courses for over 9 years.

My students expressed frustration at the rigid structure of conventional language programs and teaching methods. This is especially noticeable in the huge amount of time dedicated to grammar and language rules. Not enough time was allocated to speaking and building confidence as well as developing new skills that can be used in everyday situations. Over the following years i wrote a program to bundle, and batch together different topics and their related vocabulary, idioms and phrases. I find it’s better to learn in chunks and learn well a particular topic, before moving on to another. I wish you all the success with your language journey and hope this program can be a major contributor.

The nautilus marine mollusc.

As the nautilus matures, it creates new, larger sections within the shell and moves its growing body into this space. The old space is then sealed and vacated.
Language study is like a nautilus shell, growing and expanding in knowledge, a little bit at a time.
